| Lonsdale House a great town house Hotel |
|
Lonsdale House Hotel was built in 1787 by Robert Fell. At the time it was called 'Daltongate Mansion' and was the home to the Fell family. Father, John Fell was a manufacturer of hand loomed goods and created the 'Ulverston Check' fabric. Later the name changed to North Lonsdale House and is today Lonsdale House Hotel. Remnants of those early years remain in evidence today. To the rear of the hotel is a unique garden with a boundary wall similar to that of a castle. This is thought to have been built by a later memberof the family who had a fascination with castles. Today it provides an excellent setting to enjoy a handsome cream tea/coffee or a chilled glass of wine while escaping from the bustle of the town. Ulverston's historic market has been bustling for over 1000 years. Cobbled streets and a myriad of shops complement the atmosphere. Lonsdale House Hotel offers good quality accommodation in easy reach of Windermere, Coniston, Barrow in furness, Dalton and many other areas of the lakedistrict.Children are welcome and accommodated in family suites.
Due to the changes in regulation, the hotel is now completely non smoking. However, we do have a wonderful garden where smoking is allowed. We offer free WIFI to our guests which can be obtained from most of our rooms and in our guest lounges. |
