Eleven Restaurant

Image

The current newly refurbished restaurant, was formerly named ‘Fells'  and was so-named  after the gentleman who built Lonsdale House Hotel back in 1787.

At that time. it was called 'Daltongate Mansion' and was home to the Fell Family. Father, John Fell (1716-1794) was a manufacturer of hand loomed goods and created the 'Ulverston Check' fabric. But it was through the active enterprise of his son, Robert, (I75I -183I) that the wealth of the family significantly increased.

Robert developed the industry his father had started and either began, or continued, the banking business, that proved extremely lucrative for the family.  It was he who built the mansion in Daltongate, which later became North Lonsdale House and is today Lonsdale House Hotel.

Remnants of those early years remain in evidence today. To the rear of the Hotel is a unique garden with a boundary wall similar to that of a castle. This is thought to have been built by a later member of the Fell family who had a fascination with castles. Today it provides an excellent setting to enjoy a handsome cream tea/coffee or a chilled glass of wine while escaping the bustle of the town.

Please accept our warm welcome to our new refurbished 'Eleven Restaurant'. We hope you enjoy a meal with us.
