The shapely peak of Bow Fell is instantly recognisable in any view and it commands a superb position at the centre of three popular valleys — Great Langdale, Langstrath and Eskdale. It is from the former that the mountain is best climbed, an airy track ascending via The Band and past Three Tarns. The summit itself is a wind-swept perch in the midst of a landscape of tumbled rocks and boulders. Extensive views stretch in all directions, but all red-blooded walkers will turn their eyes west to the Scafells and England’s highest ground.
