Penrith, Cumbria CA11 - England, UK Penrith Beacon is a monument built in 1719, situated upon Beacon Fell.
The location has been used as a point where beacons have been lit since the time of Henry VIII. Such fires warned of impending raids in the days of the Border Reivers, when Scots and Cumbrians launched regular attacks on each other. Today, you can walk up to the beacon and enjoy superb views across the Eden Valley to the hills of the Lake District. |
